Wednesday June 8th:
Although the temperature was still on the cool side (for me) when I woke up Wednesday morning, the sun was shining. I could not ask for anything more. I was excited to head out to enjoy a day of wandering and taking photos on my first sunny day in Venice.
I started my day by walking to the Fondamenta delle Zattere and took the number 2 vaporetto to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, then I wandered around Piazza San Marco once again (I will do a separate post to share the photos I took while in Piazza San Marco), and finally found my way, with only a few wrong turns as well as stopping in a few shops along the way, to the Ponte dell’Accademia, also known as the Accademia Bridge.
I took tons of photos and once again it was really difficult narrowing them down to a reasonable number to share. I hope you enjoy…
My first photo of the day:
Santa Maria della Visitazione and the Chiesa dei Gesuati (I think I got this right):
Buildings on the Giudecca:
Church of the Redentore:
Chiesa delle Zitelle:
Island and Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore (see my previous post for more photos and info on my visit to this little island & church):
Views of the San Marco waterfront area:
Ponte dell’Accademia (one of the 4 bridges that cross the Grand Canal):
Notice the tiny little narrow house on the left!

After taking photos from the bridge, I went back to my B&B, dropped off my larger photo bag and camera and jumped back on the vaporetto and headed to the train station, taking my new little point & shoot camera with me. I was going to meet Sandra at the station when her train arrived from Roma to help her pick up her Venice Connected vaporetto pass and to help her navigate the vaporetto with luggage.
I love riding the vaporetto, so a ride down the Grand Canal to the train station is always an enjoyable ride, especially when I manage to grab a great spot where I can take photos of the beautiful buildings along the way. This year, I was very lucky and ended up in a great spot on the vaparetto on almost every ride I took.
Next up – Wednesday in Venezia ~ part 2
Girasoli, I have so enjoyed following along with you on this trip. You make it so interesting to read, every thing you write about. Now that you are in Venice, I am hanging on every word and savoring each photo. It was just over a year ago that I was there with my sister and daughter, and I do love that city of Venice! Continue to enjoy your trip and taking more great photos!!
