I haven’t driven down King Street in months but did last Thursday and it ended up being perfect timing! The ‘Iolani Palace was all decked out in honor of King Kalakaua’s birthday. There even was a parking spot waiting for me right in front of the palace! I only had my phone with me, still had fun taking a few photos. The palace was so beautiful!
I found out later while watching the news that the three flags flying above the palace all have special significance. I am including this link to the KITV news segment about the palace, the flags, and King Kalakaua’s birthday celebration.
When looking at the palace, the flag on the left is the Hawaiian National Flag, the Kingdom Flag. The flag in the center is the king’s personal standard. The flag on the right is the royal standard, the flag of the monarchy and this flag goes back to the time of King Kamehameha III.
HI Girasoli, great photos. And lucky you for snagging a great parking spot. The phones these days are so good they can take great photos too. These are beautiful captures.
