Hawaii traffic

Honolulu has officially been declared the 3rd worst place for traffic in the nation. I think today, it bumped up to number one!

This morning, it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive 10 miles. 10 miles!! A stalled commercial truck was blocking the right hand lane. It takes 15-20 minutes when there is no traffic. My usual morning drive is 45 minutes to 1 hour.

It took even longer for those driving all the way into Honolulu (20 miles).

But that was nothing! Around 9:30 am, the zip mobile broke. They tried to fix the part by using a part from a 2nd zip mobile. That broke also! Fabulous!

I must say that I am very grateful to have only spent 1 hour in traffic driving back home this afternoon (which is frequently the usual time it takes me got home after work), adding up to a grand total of 2 hours and 15 minutes on the road for the day.

Everyone trying to drive home from Honolulu spent an average of 3-4 hours in traffic this afternoon or evening. Some people even spent 6 hours in traffic driving home! Madness! It’s quicker to fly to California!!

It’s now 11 pm and the news is showing the latest. Cars are still crawling along!

The part to fix the zip mobile is flying in sometime tomorrow. Does that mean another afternoon/evening like today? 3-6 hours on the road to drive 20 miles from Honolulu to Ewa or Kapolei? Twitter in Hawaii will implode if we have day two of #zipnado.

Although I am so fortunate to only have to drive half as far to work every day as those working in Honolulu, the traffic has still been sucking the life out of me. It is the number one reason why I am leaving Hawaii.

#hitraffic… you’re killing me!!
